Black Racists

It's very hard for some blacks to want to assume that they do have racist tendencies within themselves. They'd rather prefer putting it off as being a 'white man's thing', but the opposite is far true.

How many times have you come across a fellow black who habours ill feelings towards you simply because they see you, a black person, in the arms of a woman of another race, or for the ladies, how do you often notice when black women sneer at you when they see you in the arms of your black-skinned lover? And how frightening it is to note that there are such folks here in BP who throw insults at the fellow blacks who indulge in interracial datting.

I know this question might seem or feel a bit strange for some of you who're reading this post, but I just have to ask: have you ever felt yourself being attracted first to a person's type and colour of hair before even getting to know the person?

I ask this because I know I have before, and it felt so very strange.

Curious... Is this group primarily 'virtual' or are there ever 'meets & greets'?

You'd think this funny or even ironic, but often I've found myself being attracted to women bearing the same type of body structure and often, poise. Always preferred tall women (though not model-like tall), a bit on the fleshy side, with matching ass and breasts to compliment the figure.

Are you writing down/memorizing/ignoring your 2008 New Year resolutions? I'm not sure I want to do any this year. A majority of what I wanted actually came to pass but the one thing I was almost sure/ready to bet money on did not come to pass.
Yeppers, I'm talking of finding that special someone. I almost swore it was going to happen this year. Alas, it did not. Maybe next year, I don't know any more.

So what your deal for 2008?

Bare Honesty - Are we racists?

Nice to find this tribe, though I seem to have stumbled upon it after the party has already ended. Not a lot of recent activity anyway.

I am wondering about two things and wanting to get other people's perspectives. Sometimes I notice that I am attracted to men of different races from mine at a purely physical level, and don't understand why that is. I certainly have been presented with many cultural images of attractive black men, but rarely get turned on by black male bodies the way I am by those of men of other races. I sometimes find a black man very handsome, but there always feels like there is something missing. I might see his handsomeness but still not actually feel strong desire for him.

A black male friend of mine once summed it up more bluntly than I would myself speak and I'm a little embarrased to even repeat it, but feel pressed to because it is so to the point. He said, "either you're into black d_#&*s (insert common phrase for male "members") or you're into white d_#&*s." To him it was an open and shut case and there was nothing more to say about it. I guess I might agree except that I don't want to just go with social programming and effectively accept racism within myself, if that's what it is.

On another note, I find that many times I'm not attracted to the white men who come on to me (usually with lines about my being a beautiful black woman or how they love black women), yet men in general seem to only take a woman as a serious relationship prospect if they approach her first. So that puts me in a difficult situation when it comes to meeting viable partners. I don't want someone who just likes black women and only sees me as that. Yet white men who don't seem to frequently (or exclusively) date black women don't approach me very often.

In both cases it strikes me as a type of racism. I am being seen as a black woman not as a woman and they either want a black woman or they don't want a black woman. Yet my self-identity is as a person with a number of characteristics, which among them is that I am black. My racial characteristic has a huge affect on my life and therefore on the content of my personality and my wisdom, to be sure, but it isn't my identity.

Is anyone relating to what I'm saying? Basically, I am wondering what affect racism has on my preferences for non-black men and what affect it has on my own difficulty in being related to as a potential life partner. Is it all okay, and to each their own, or is it worthwhile to look at these tendencies within oneself and try to overcome them in the same way we would want any type of racist to work at opening their minds?

I'm looking for Any girls her in Salt Lake To meet and date. Anyone know a girl or is a girl here? I needn't go over my particualrs here but if you know a girl or are one yourself contact me. Also What do you think about the raxcial climate here? I think it's more relaxed as far as the relations between blacks and whites goes. I've lived in other cities where it's so tense you could cut it with a knife. But then again in many ways Salt Lake is unintentionally a Segregated place.

Here's a new program that will be airing soon on TV One -- The premise is based on a woman's interracial (vs. same race) love relations: http://www.amsterdamnews.com/News/article/article.asp?NewsID=65961&sID=37

“Something New” actually turns out to be
by SUSAN E. MCGREGOR
Special to the AmNews
Originally posted 2/1/2006

Hollywood’s well-documented discomfort with the interracial relationship should perhaps be the first clue that Sanaa Hamri’s directorial debut “Something New” has a little bit more to it than the traditional romantic comedy.

Despite its sleek packaging, the film feels actually fresh, with more art and edge to it than the standard Hollywood sugar rush. And the script, from Kriss Turner, a veteran comedy writer and co-producer of last season’s TV hit “Everybody Hates Chris,” deftly cuts from sharp dialogue about race and relationships to irreverent, honest humor that keeps the film going and, most importantly, genuinely entertaining.

Kenya (Sanaa Lathan) is a successful businesswoman who, along with her “Sex and the City”-like cohort of girlfriends, themselves all accomplished professional Black women, question the fate of those 42.4 percent of them that will never be married. After they agree to adopt a “let go, let flow” attitude toward romance, however, Kenya agrees to go on a blind date with a co-worker’s friend. When she shows up for her Starbucks rendezvous, Kenya is caught off guard when she finds her date, Brian (Simon Baker), is white. After a few awkward false starts, Kenya bails on the caffeinated disaster, only to encounter him at her co-worker’s wedding and eventually enlist him to transform the gnarly garden of her new home.

Part of what keeps this movie interesting is that race is not the only juxtaposition it deals with. Kenya is a bit of a Black American princess, while Brian is a landscape architect who spends most days with his hands in the dirt. Although both differences are played up for effect, the movie executes its humor without the kind of loping pace that sets up every situation 10 minutes in advance. The unassuming nature of both the actors and their characters is also essential, so that instead of attempting to navigate a politically correct path through the potential pitfalls of their relationship, they often walk straight into them with a kind of earnest naïveté. The result is moments that are often genuinely surprising and seriously funny, with only one or two romantic comedy gag-
inducing metaphors.

Although some useless stereotypes do intrude into the film—like Donald Faison as Kenya’s law grad little brother who pretends to be a producer as a means of access to an endless array of gorgeous airheads—in general, the movie manages to be honest enough to say something interesting and self-deprecating enough to stay entertaining.

Also worthy of note are the skillful direction and camerawork that capture the sensibility of certain scenes—from Kenya sizing up a group of brothers to the inevitable love scene—almost perfectly. As a welcome departure from many of the more tired aspects of standard romantic comedy fare, moviegoers can be glad that this is film is actually “Something New.”

I just read on another message board that the general (white) American public does not considers actress Alfre Woodard ('Mrs. Appleby' in Desperate Housewives) as attractive. This came as a shock to me, since I regard her as one of the most beautiful (black) ladies I have seen on the telly in recent years. But what do you , in particular the white folks in this group, think?

Hi my name is Elaina but I also go by Nikki (my middle name being Nicole) and I am new here. I'm 27 and will be 28 in Sept. I'm a sahm to my soonto be 10yr old son. I've been dating white males all my life (my son is also a product of this) sparsely dating black males when I was younger. I'm attracted to white males and no one can make me change that. I'm still in search of the love who will love me for a lifetime and I am glad to find a tribe that recognize that we like dating outside our race. If you'd like to get to know me add me and I'll surely add you back.

I'm So Going to Hell...

And why ... because I actually _intentionally_ went out of my way yesterday to (*gulp!*) watch Oprah -- worse than that, I didn't have time to watch it, so I caught what I could and I'm re-watching/watching-the-rest of it now.

And why did I watch/tape Oprah, now leading me to say that I'm going to hell and state this as humorously so... well, dang man, 'cause it was on the same topic of this tribe.

Yes, because Oprah says so, it is a new "trend" of black women dating white men. This episode of Oprah is based much off of the release of the film "Something New" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437777/) -- a romantic comedy starting Sanaa Lathan & Simon Baker.

Did anyone else catch this episode of Oprah?
Is this a 'new trend'?
Is this a 'trend' because Oprah say so, and of course as we know Oprah is the GHoddess Of Talk TV... or is Oprah just beyond over-rated?
Did you like this episode or not? (partly referring to the stereotypes the show addressed just as w/ the IMDB board topic "Someone was at the Oprah taping, and didn't like it")

I think some of the numbers that Sanna Lathan threw out were interesting -- 40-odd% of black women are single, something like 5% of black women who are in relationships are with white men -- tho possibly hard to prove, and like statistics numbers that are potentially easy to manipulate.

Further discussion?
Thoughts on the film?
Thoughts on the Oprah episode?
Other films with similar topic (Guess Who and the original Guess Who's Coming To Dinner)?
Other flicks with Ew/Im relationshiops (Strangedays w/ Ralph Fines & Angela Bassette, 28 Days Later with whats-their-names, etc) you wish to mention & the reason why?

Advantages of being with a White man or Black woman

One thing I really appreciate about being with George is that he can run cover for me out in the world. When I don't feel like dealing with racism or sexism in someone that comes across our path, I just step back and let George handle it. I've had my fair share of battles as a professional woman and a resident of mostly white communities most of my life. Mostly, it's all good and I choose to see and experience what I want. Sometimes, though it's just too much, and rather than buck up for round 20, 975, I can say, "Talk to the George."

George is great too. He knows I'm totally capable, kickass broad; but he never questions me. He hasn't spent a life time developing the kind of radar I have so he trusts my judgement. He steps up and handles it.

Bless, Im writting because recently some people have given me shit for being a part of this tribe, both by women black and white,
How i joined the tribe was I got a message because my bio contains the words "ebony and ivory"
the over all unity of the two sides of nature making harmony,
on the next level, the harmony to be attained by the seeming divide between races,
there may have been a suddle hint of my liking of black girls but thats not the main thing......
so when asked I joined because I support those who follow their hearts and go against years of brainwashing and can still find love
regardless of COLOR, having said that i was just looking for some back up on this topic
MANY TEARS OF BEEN SHED OVER THIS( not really I AM completly joking)
so some body ANY BODY,
SAY HHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
SAY HHHHOOOOO HHHHHHHOOOOO
NO SOMEBODY SCREAM
just an mc flashback,
get at your boy JAHSUN who will defend this tribe and the beautifull babies who have parents that are black and white
HARMONY PEACE LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING

Premiere of the Keva Larthridge-Mack Show

Hi all!!! I've been lurking for months and just adore this tribe. :-) I thought I'd come out of lurk-mode to post this relevant topic.

http://www.kevalarthridgemack.com/podcast.html

Didja see a familiar face? That's me and my boo, Clint, and we're going to be interviewed. The topic is Interracial Relationships. I personally don't see us as two different races, I see us as two souls, two minds, combining into one unified force. :-)

If you don't know Keva, you just don't know! This is my grrl!!!! She's a forward-thinking, spiritually-grounded soul. She has the utmost beautiful smile I've ever seen, and it comes from the heart.

She's a life coach, and one of my touchstones my life is blessed with. Her radio show premieres next month!!

If you notice on her website, she has a place where you can send in questions you'd like Clint & I to answer. Don't be shy, send Keva those "tough" questions you've always wanted to ask. Keva mentioned that we're outspoken and it's the truth! You can send in questions through Sunday, I believe.

I believe the show will premiere on Valentine's Day.

OK, so I saw a film preview-advert thing this morning that made me think of this tribe...

There's this film coming out -- a SciFi kinda-cowboys-in-space thing -- called Serenity. If you're not familiar, this film comes from the short lived very-cool TV show (IMO -- but I'm a bit of a sci-fi head anyway, & I make no bones about it -- its my one guilty pleasure) that ran on FOX for only about a season called Firefly. The space ship of the main charactres (look Shaka, another person who does Brit spellings) in the show is dubbed "Serenity" -- hence the title. So anyhoo, we have a picture in this tribe's album pertaining to this (from the TV show) -- http://seattle.tribe.net/template/pub%2CPhotoAlbum.vm/context/tribe?currentoffset=47&parentid=f0c56649-ab84-4ea8-8db4-76ab9720dca0&sortby=newest&rows=0&r=10302 -- with the sub-title "Zoe (Gina Torres) and Walsh (Alan Tudyk)". So a few things on this...
1) according to Firefly, there are E&I couples in the future, in space... don't ask me if The Muppets' pigs ever made it into space, as that's a whole 'nother subject.
2) the E&I couple in the show is played by Gina Torres & Alan Tudyk, but in the picture in our tribe is Gina & Nathan Fillion... which might be a hotter couple, but lets get real, it's just bleedin' TV
3) given the opportunity, I just might drink a sampling of Gina Torres baff water (if it was for fear & enjoyment of getting my arse kicked by husband Laurence Fishburne... oops!)

And on another photo-in-this-tribe subjec... How about a picture of ol' Daegan next to Collin Farrell that similarly reads "Daegan - I heard he digs sistahz!!!" (http://seattle.tribe.net/template/pub%2CPhotoAlbum.vm/context/tribe?currentoffset=25&parentid=f0c56649-ab84-4ea8-8db4-76ab9720dca0&sortby=newest&rows=0&r=10302)? Well, why not if it's true! I gots me a lotta Irish heritage as well... I'm sure I'm taller than Colin... and while I don't have any tatoos, I can get sexed up for a photo just as well as him... (*snicker!*)

Recent Adds

OK, so I've noticed some adds of late that feature bi-racial relationships -- but only quite specifically White & Asian. I think there's three, but I can only remember 2 -- a digitial cable company add (WM/AF) and an Old Naval Lint (AM/WF). Plenty of TV & online adds featuring E&I consorting, being friendly, but no seemingly E/I relationships.

Marg Helgenberger's charactre (Catherine Willows) recently revealed, subtly, that she had had a thing for Gary Dourdan's charactre (Warrick Brown) on CSI... but that's about all I've seen. I've also noticed, while chanel-surfing, that the different dating shows seem to just stick all E folk with E folk and I folk with I folk ... I wonder w/ those, when initially going on the show, if a featured guest gets an opportunity to indicate all that they're open to.

Or have I just missed it -- adds, TV stuff you've seen featuring E&I romantic relationship set-ups?

Cultural Expressions !

Many Male Haitians here in Montreal refer to white girls that date black guys as :

Plotte a Negres.

Pussy for N******.

Now as a white man with two 1/2 black chidren I find the name weird.

Since the expression shows the lack of appreciation for the particular attention given by these women, no matter their colour.

As to say : The cow that made my burger was stupid. But I am still eating it.

Anyone faces similar unromantic situations ?

qb

PS: I would abstain for mentioning what they say about their own ethnicity when dating guys like me.

Burning Man is one of hippest, most freeing experiences on the entire planet and only a handful of black women attend. Other black burner chicks out there please tell the ladies why you keep going back. Could it be the hot white boys (plus every other color) or is it 'cause it's the sexiest and most sensual place there can ever be. Or possibly 'cause it inspires your artistry to even greater heights. Please come...I won't bite. Unless, you ask me first. www.burningman.com

how to date....

Dunno if this if of interests to the rest of this tribe but I had a discussion with a black female friend of mine lately and would like your input on this.
We were talking about dating and I asked myself the question how I got to know most of my dates lately and had to see that all of them originated in online conversations.
My question now is if there is a difference opening contact interracially on the Internet and in real life, i.e. is it easier to break societal imposed bounderies on the net?
Or is this something I just imagine and it doesn't matter for people of different ethnical backgrounds to approach each other online/real life?

(forewarning: i'm *cough* slightly dramatic)

i've mentioned in here a few times 'ex-love of my life'. he was the guy i mentioned that i was involved w/ a couple years ago, the one who at first i didn't know what race/nationality he was (later found out he was portuguese). anyway, that's irrelevant, but...

i saw him yesterday (sorry, some of y'all have already heard this story). holy fucking shit. so painful. of course he had a girl on his shoulder. :p i don't know if it's possible for him not to have a girl w/ him. i'm almost positive the chick was black, although i guess she could've been a really dark east-indian, but i don't think so. not w/ a name like babylynn (yes, that's her real name!). blue contacts and all. *rolling my eyes* but anyway, fuck her, i don't even know her so there's no point in me hating on her (even though i want to). *chuckle*

but it was seeing him and it was like, 'oh my fucking gosh! the dude who i used to love and i wanted to have his babies and spend the rest of my life w/ him and...' the list goes on and on.

i could never be w/ him again (not that he'd want to be w/ me again, which i know he wouldn't). but that doesn't stop it from being mad painful, y'know. it's weird to see how much those feelings haven't healed, even after two years. i'm not devastated over him like i used to be, but i am definitely... i feel like i lost my footing.

bit i'll survive. i always do. ;)

My first post. I was told that some felt that i was soliciting sex. I assure any who were offended that this was not my intention. I do get in a weird frame of mind sometimes when online and sometimes say things that I otherwise in REAL LIFE might not.

Racism problems?

When I first dated, etc, I was warned by my parents, etc, that I'd have problems of a racist nature by dating black women. I totally ignored them. And after 9 years of interracial-ness, I've yet to see much of anything. But I could be blind & deaf to such things.

Anyway, I was just throwing out the topic, if anyone else has experiences? Or is it a rarity?

I guess it might be more or less depending on the region, so I should say the areas for me have been Minneapolis-MN, NYCity, Washington-DC, LasVegas-NV, BurningMan-NV, SF-CA, and a short vacation in Florida (Miami and Orlando). Oh, and England.

Ugh, I have a new pet peeve. It's the term "white boy". I can't stand this term, even when it comes from another white person. It feels degrading. It totally lacks respect and it's filled with ill-feeling.

first, i would like to apologize for anything that i've done in here that may have caused confusion as to why this tribe was here. i will be more mindful of that.

˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭˙٭

apparently it is not clear to some people why this tribe is here. i have tried to be a laissez faire moderator, letting it develop in the way that people like without placing a lot of restrictions. i still do not feel like defining what is appropriate; that can be too limiting, but i will state some of the things that aren't.

note that this tribe is under the category 'romance and relationships'. it is not a 'mature' tribe. therefore this is supposed to be a tribe w/ some taste.

not allowed:
- pictures w/ explicit sexual acts
- sexual soliciting

there are several tribes that are open for those things. many are listed on the left-hand side as the 'connected' tribes. if that's what you're looking for, go there.

i just deleted three members. one was for the offensive pictures he posted earlier today. one was a member who, last month, had written a post soliciting sexual acts. another hadn't even posted anything recently, but months before had advertised a link to a sexually explicit site. i had already kicked him/her out bit s/he had rejoined.

when i delete someone, i write him/her a letter explaining why i am doing it. but i also don't let the person know that s/he is not welcome back in the tribe.

i do not like deleting members; in the year since i started this tribe i've deleted less than five. i can appreciate disagreement; i think that is what makes tribes interesting - differences in opinions. but there is a difference between difference of opinion and rude, insensitive posting.

if you're not sure what to share, skim through other posts to get a feel for the atmosphere in here. post freely but be respectful.

of course if you have any questions, concerns, etc. feel free to post it here or write me a note and we can discuss in more detail.

sincerely,
shakalover, moderator

i'm saying this in jest, but still thought it's worth mentioning.

we've joked about the george bush/condoleeza rice thing in here before.
also on one thread someone had mentioned how van morrison's "brown eyed girl" was originally "brown skinned girl".

bush has an ipod that he takes w/ him when he jogs. what do you think is one of the songs on there? uh huh... "brown eyed girl"

*raising my eyebrow* coincidence? i think not.

guess who

'Guess Who' Debuts As Top Movie With $21M

By DAVID GERMAIN, AP Movie Writer

LOS ANGELES - Two guesses on who topped the weekend box office. Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher, that's who. Their comedy "Guess Who," an update of the 1967 classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," debuted as the No. 1 movie with $21 million, according to studio estimates Sunday....

"Guess Who" stars Mac as a black father vexed after learning his daughter's boyfriend (Kutcher) is white, a reversal of the "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" scenario, which starred Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn (news) and Sidney Poitier in the story of a white woman engaged to a black man.

While the original was heavy on social commentary amid the civil-rights movement, "Guess Who" plays the interracial-romance angle for slapstick laughs.

"It's definitely a different movie," said Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony, which released "Guess Who." 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner' is the inspiration, but this is very broad comedy that plays really well in kind of the buddy mode as well as the romantic comedy mode."....
While I haven't been here from the get-go, so I don't know if the atmosphere is something that has been created with your influence or if it just came about on its own, but I really like the atmosphere of this trbe -- it seems to function quite a bit on the basis of treating other's with dignity and respect.
Thank you for cleaing up that mess.

Hey People -
I wanted to give you a heads-up re: an outstanding singer, Maya Azucena. You MUST check her out!!!

She's an amazing person; actress, vocalist, songwriter, poet, activist and then some... plus she's really sweet, too. My homeboy (Jeremy Mage) is her keyboardist/Musical Director -- the band is dope!!!

Maya and her band are scheduled to perform at Howard University on April 15th as part of the RES Fest. Anyone in the area should try their best to catch this show -- If you're elsewhere, check the Tour Dates to see when she'll be playing in your neck of the woods ;-)

http://www.mayaazucena.com/

* Her debut album (MAYAWHO?!) is available at select stores throughout the U.S. > plus they'll be selling a NEW limited CD named "WHAT YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE"

Thanks for supporting live and thoughtful music!
Peace, DAVE (I, Storm)

Some thoughts on trust

I started this conversation on trust with Dave as a tangent to a polyamory discussion. Thought it would be fun to see what you all might have to say on the topic.

Trust is another one of those super charged topics. The thing about it is that we setup all these conditions and tests for people, especially the ones we love, to either meet or fail. And then depending on the outcome, we give them our trust. Moreover, what most people call trust is really a predictability-based-on-your-expectations gauge. We say, if you do only the stuff I can be with, and don't do any of the stuff I can't be with, then you have my trust.

Over the past 5 years, I've really been looking at trust. At this point, I trust everyone to be themselves which may include lying and breaking promises. Mostly, I'm looking at my own level of trust and respect for myself. If I look historically, every perceived breach of trust also involved my not stating clearly what was best for me and honoring that.

Maybe trust is really a smoke screen for looking honestly at who a person is and what they are up to. The only time trust is required is when we are asking someone to do something that they might not ordinarily do. Then it's 50-50 if they can or will honor the request for a change in their behavior.

The nesting phase with George was not about building trust, it was about seeing who is and how he operates over time. I like to think that I can expand to include things about him that would ordinarily make me uncomfortable. I'm ususally up for an mind-expanding growth opportunity. I try on everything, assuming it won't cause me physical harm, and if it fits I keep it. If if doesn't, then that's more data. If George agreed to do something and then didn't do it, that would just be more data.

The thing is, it doesn't interest me, nor does it serve, to have George keep me safe emotionally. I want him to do everything he wants to do, because I want to do everything I want to do. When it gets uncomfortable, then we call a break and talk about it. We look at our edges to see if and how we could stretch, what would make it possible to move forward. We believe compromise is a sure ticket to mediocrity. We go for the win-win: nobody gives up anything, we both get what we want.

I even find a lot of black dudes bad-mouthin black women and only datin white girls now. To them or anybody I just say that you are weak and cant handle one.

'wife swap'

talking about the show, not a menage a quatre. ;)

a few weeks ago there was an episode w/ a black female/white male couple and a lesbian couple. the bf/wm had three kids and none of them looked black (they looked latino). they were from te-xas and man... the family was conservative. let me explain: i guess (b/c i don't watch the show; only saw it b/c my friend was watching it) the wives swap home for two weeks. the first week, the wife has to follow the rules of her adoptive home; the next week, she gets to make the rules for that home.

the second week, when the black woman got to make the rules, she put an american flag on the fireplace (it covered the whole fireplace, mind you). then she went outisde and put a huge republican elephant lawn sign on the grass. i almost fell out of my chair (not that i should be talking; i've dated several republicans before; but at least they didn't stick repub things on their lawns!) i was just like, 'what is wrong w/ this woman?'

anyway, this woman went off on the other family for being gay. she was like, 'you are depraved'... etc. one of the lesbians was saying to her that she couldn't understand why she'd say those things b/c she was sure the woman had faced racial prejudice so she should understand. it was an interesting, if not to mention quite controversial episode.

i just remembered conversations i'd had w/ one of my best friends who's gay and white (and her ex-girlfriend was black). anyway, the episode gave my friend and me a lot to talk about.

OK, I know this isn't an E & I topic...but Kweisi Mfume, ex-president of the NAACP, is running for Senate. Check out this MLK-esque quote from him:

"I am convinced that this nation still stands before the world as perhaps the last expression of a possibility of mankind devising a social order where justice is the supreme ruler and law is but its instrument; where freedom is the dominant creed and order but its principle; where equity is the common practice and fraternity the true human condition."

What is a healthy acceptable timeline for love?
I just had, for the third time in my life…ironically at 17,27,and now 37, an incredibly mutually passionate, H-bomb lightning storm romance shut down because it was ‘TOO FAST”. I guess the candle that burns the brightest burns the fastest.

If your lover asked to take nude pictures of you would you do it?
Would you let him or her take pictures of you performing sexual acts.
Would you video tape your sexual play?

HELL NO!

I wouldnt do it.
I've seen the damage done to many women for doing this.
Some will pass it around, after a break -up showing his short comings..lol and Ive seen some men post their Xs on their nasty little sites too. So I wouldnt do it, just too risky.
Take a mental picture baby.
lol..

i remember when there were about twelve members and only three of them were girls and we were trying to figure out how to bring more people in. now that's not even an issue. :p

wow, thanks everyone for making 'EBONY & IVORY' what it is! :)

This is an idea I had while in another thread.

Seems that there is a number of us in this tribe -- out of the current, what, 90 members! -- who will be single on Valetine's Day. Now, not that this is a bad or wrong thing -- tho some folks may act with such stigmatas (Foamy RULZS) -- but I've got an idea.

Could we do some sort of Ew&Im-singles Valetine's Day exchange? Nothin' fancy, nothing that would take much time, nothin' with security boundaries like giving someone else your hardmail addy so they can mail you a little somethin'somethin' .... maybe just some e-cards or so.

E&I thoughts?

Anyone have any opinions or perspective on actually getting married in an E&I relationship. Dealing with parents meeting each other, what type of wedding ceremony, etc?

Seems to be a source of entertainment for some, (on the outside watching), such as the recent movies "my big fat Greek wedding" or "meet the Fockers". (granted not E&I relationships, but the basic issue of clash of families and differences in styles of wedding.

So one other member of this tribe (whom I'll allow to self identify if they so choose) and I figured out that we're both in WaState. And while they've mentioned that this tribe is a bit more located in CA (I mean, aside from located online), is there anyone else here in WA?

A few questions for everyone. :) How many have you had, do you prefer to date people outside your race and if you've been with someone of a different race what did you like the most about it?

I've been with a black woman and a biracial woman. I had great memories with both but one turned out to be really really mean :( and the other was a bit controlling. When it comes to dating I really don't care what she looks like I just want a woman with a warm heart who is as generous and loving as I am. For the last question what I really liked about being with the black girl was when we first held hands and seeing our light and dark skin tones against each other. :)

When you got together with your sweetie, who voiced the loudest opposition: your family, their family, friends?

The first time it was my mother. She was deeply disapppinted having set her sights on me marrying a Black lawyer/doctor type. Ten years later, when I presented her with George, she was more concerned with could he reproduce. She's still longing for grandkids and doesn't care what their ethnicity is anymore.
Political Conversation: Condi ’s Slip

A pressing issue of dinner-party etiquette is vexing Washington, according to a story now making the D.C. rounds: How should you react when your guest, in this case national-security adviser Condoleezza Rice, makes a poignant faux pas? At a recent dinner party hosted by New York Times D.C. bureau chief Philip Taubman and his wife, Times reporter Felicity Barringer, and attended by Arthur Sulzberger Jr., Maureen Dowd, Steven Weisman, and Elisabeth Bumiller, Rice was reportedly overheard saying, “As I was telling my husb —”and then stopping herself abruptly, before saying, “As I was telling President Bush. ”Jaws dropped, but a guest says the slip by the unmarried politician, who spends weekends with the president and his wife, seemed more psychologically telling than incriminating. Nobody thinks Bush and Rice are actually an item. A National Security Council spokesman laughed and said, “No comment. ”

but really, look how we've grown. it's pretty crazy.

i remember when i wanted to start 'e & i', i was thinking, "um, i want a black female/ white male tribe. there's probably others out there who'd want one too."

who would've thunk it? who would've thought that all y'all did too? :)

anyway, was just having one of those moments, so i'm sending a big 'hi' out to everyone!

HI! ;)

The first time I touched you the walls of my world crumbled
Out of the ruins you rebuild my soul
You showed me a world so different from mine
You took me how I am no matter how different I was from you
You made me a better man.
I miss you.
