Attracted by Hair

topic posted Thu, February 21, 2008 - 1:08 AM by  philip
I know this question might seem or feel a bit strange for some of you who're reading this post, but I just have to ask: have you ever felt yourself being attracted first to a person's type and colour of hair before even getting to know the person?

I ask this because I know I have before, and it felt so very strange.

I do like a classic 70's Afro and also natural ebony hair (eg Macy Gray in her video "I try"), but it's not a deciding factor in wanting to meet someone.

I do less prefer the "stuck down curls" some girls have, and I think corn rows hide the natural beauty of black hair, but understandably necessarily to keep it out of the way. The function vs fashion dilemma.

why yes I have as a matter of fact. I was on the elevator the other day at work and a delivery guy got in with long beautiful healthy hair and he had it braided and it reached towards the middle of his back. Immediately I imagined my hands running through it. I have seen him before and each time I do I just find myself staring at it from behind and I want to ask him can I touch it. My mind goes further into the shower with him where his hair is all wet hanging all over his body and me stroking my fingers through it. He has a nice grade of hair and otherwise he does nothing for me...I just want to play in his hair. I love a hairy man anyway, and if his hair is clean and healthy that's all the better. umph!

I love when women of the Afro Diaspora maintain their beautifully natural hair. Afros are sexy in a "raw" kinda' way. Braided natural hair is great, but feel free to "pick" it out, girl.

Although it's quite unhealthy, many women look hot with relaxed hair if it's done right.

One huge turn-off is the ever popular weave. It hardly EVER looks right unless
you're on the budget of a movie star or Pop singer; able to afford the best of the best.
    And wigs . . . forget it!
    Don't do it, Ladies!!!

    Remember:
If it ain't yours, leave it at the store!

    ;-)

(hi Dave it's been a while!!! that last line is funny!)

this thread is very interesting. i've always wondered if men care or don't care if a woman has a weave?

Y'know, I think it all depends on the Dude... what's his experience & maturity level?
If he respects black women truly & really understands the culture, he ain't gonna be 'down' with it.
The type of "girl" that wears the glue gun weave isn't my type --
We cross paths on the subway, but that's about it.

I have DJ'd some Caribbean parties where chicks were rockin' the weaves,
but Island Gyals get derre herr did right!

        P.S.
        Hey ARCADIA --
Hope all is well w/ ya...
Also hope ur still sportin' that naturally beautiful hair of yours ;-)
        HOTNESS!!!

(Hi Dave, I'm wearing braids again lately. This is so embarassing but I let a cousin convince me to get a curly perm two years ago which turned out to be a disaster, my hair is too fine for such harsh chemicals.)

Not too pass judgement on anyone but I guess I'm old school. I like weaves for fun or a special occasion when you want to do a fancy hairstyle, but not for everyday. It's too hard and too expensive to try and keep it up, especially if you want it too look good. And how do you explain to your non-african american boyfriend when he is trying to run his fingers through your beautiful hair and he comes upon a track! It's a situation like this where I think it's just easier to date black men, and also when you tell them you're going to the shop to get your hair pressed they know what you are talking about :)!

            >> I think it's just easier to date black men

Any white guy who doesn't know about black women's hair, really is just experimenting, or something.
Not know about a weave track, not know what getting hair pressed is. Come on. Black hair lesson 101 - surely?
OK... I probably could see not understanding what "Lye" is, that's in lesson 102. :-)

i think - from back in the day, dave may have the same opinion, or i may just give him a laugh as i've done before elsewhere -

              "say no to geri-curl!!!!"

other than that, a black woman's hair, whether she has any or not is fine by me.

but then again, i may be biased as mom's family is from trinidad...

              ;)

I had a girl friend in Chicago that was a junkie for the stuff. I had to hide all the pillows. Couldn't touch her hair at all...most days.

Remember the couch scene from "Coming to America"...? LOL
